Good teachers & bad senators don’t need $140,000 a year

Q: You’ve said a number of times that no good teacher should be paid less than a bad senator. In January the Senators will be making over $140,000 a year. Let local school boards decide hiring and spending

McCain feels strongly that local education authorities should have the power and money to weed out problem teachers and reward good ones. And he knows that school boards, not Washington bureaucrats, make the best decisions with the dollars available to them regarding hiring new teachers, reducing class size, or building new schools - doing what is necessary to provide for the unique needs of their students. More block grants; more teacher testing; more prayer

Give all federal education funding to states in the form of block grants and allow them to spend it as they see fit
Support voluntary teacher testing and reward teachers with merit pay
Increase funding for block grants to states to help them hire additional teachers
Amend the US Constitution to guarantee the right to religious expression and voluntary prayer in public places, including schools.
