Every American child and family deserves a high-quality early education. I enthusiastically support full funding for Head Start. I wholeheartedly support high academic and vocational education standards for the public schools and for teacher
development, but I believe "No Child Left Behind" endangers fundamental aspects of a proper education for a free and democratic society. We must ensure that each child receives excellent public education from pre-school to college or technical training.

No vouchers; and charters pick off the cream off the top
Q: Do you support the VoteMatch statement, "Parents choose schools via vouchers"?
A: No.
Q: What about charter schools?
A: I like the concept, but am concerned about the impact on public education in the sense of charter schools only picking
the "cream off the top" in some cases and being able to discharge the students they don't want.

No unfunded mandates and edicts from Washington
As a former Chairman of the Gloucester School Committee and a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, I am committed to quality Public Education.
I am concerned about the process by which our tax dollars go through
Washington to fund education on the local level. The farther we move educational planning and policy away from classroom teachers, the less the positive impact upon students. We don't need unfunded mandates and edicts from Washington to our local schools
