After-school hours are too valuable to waste

One thing that's always bothered me is how little we concentrate on educating our youngest children, when their brains are most able to absorb information. I was proud to support Kentucky's Kids First initiative, and look forward to ensuring that funding early childhood education is a top priority of the US Senate. Also of great concern to me is how early we send students home from school. For families with two working parents it's difficult when children are dismissed as early as two in the afternoon. Encourage private investment in public schools

Increase state funds for professional development of public school teachers and administrators.
Encourage private or corporate investment in public school programs.
Increase state funds for school capital improvements (e.g. buildings and infrastructure).
Increase state funds for hiring additional teachers.

Post the Ten Commandments in public schools

Support posting the Ten Commandments in public schools.
Require public schools to administer high school exit exams.
Support national standards and testing of public school students.
Support teacher testing and reward teachers with merit pay.
