Jim Martin on Energy & Oil

Democratic Senate Challenger

Support cap-and-trade on greenhouse gas emissions

Q: Do you support caps on greenhouse gas emissions?

A: Yes. Placing caps on the amount of greenhouse gas emissions generated by companies is an important step in protecting the environment. I support legislation, such as the Clean Air Act, which establishes a "cap and trade" system. However, we must work to ensure that any greenhouse gas emissions cap policies are effective, including ensuring that there are not an abundance of allowances available in the marketplace.

Q: Do you support U.S. participation in binding international climate agreements?

A: Yes. The United States should join its partners around the world in working towards improving the earth's environmental prospects. I would support U.S. participation in international climate agreements.

We must reduce our greenhouse gas emissions

We must reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and lead the effort to address global climate change. The pursuit of new "green" technologies is good for the economy and good for the environment. The energy policies of the past are not sustainable and are keeping us from developing new and better energy resources. We must insist on rational sustainable growth in the development of our communities.

Supports cap and trade system to reduce carbon emissions

It's a shame the Senate didn't vote for a cap and trade system for carbon emissions. The Republicans blocked that issue. We need to look at the U.S. as a leader on this issue. We can solve this problem for the world and it's a great opportunity for new economic development.
