In 2004, Senator Brown received the Public Servant of the Year Award from the United Chamber of Commerce for his leadership in reforming the state's sex offender laws and protecting the rights of victims. He has also been recognized by the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) for his work in creating an environment that encourages job growth and expansion in Massachusetts. Opposed funding Mass Correctional Legal Services

Massachusetts Democratic Party Platform indicates voting YES in Part VI: Safety & Justice:Legal Services. [State Senator Brown, a Republican, voted NO].

Override Gov. Romney's veto of Budget Line Item 0321-2100, $500,000 for the Massachusetts Correctional Legal Services (MCLS). MCLS provides the only legal aid to indigent incarcerated individuals.

Implement the death penalty in Massachusetts

Increase state funds for construction of state prisons and for hiring of additional prison staff.
Implement the use of the death penalty in Massachusetts.
Support programs to provide prison inmates with vocational & job-related skills.
Support charging inmates fees for prison services in Massachusetts.
End parole for repeat violent offenders.
Strengthen penalties & sentences for drug-related crimes.
