Rev. Jesse Jackson on Health Care

Advocates national health care

Long before national health care, a war on drugs, dialogue with the Soviet Union and negotiations with the Middle East were popular positions, Reverend Jackson advocated them. By virtue of Reverend Jackson’s advocacy, South African apartheid and the fight for democracy in Haiti came to the forefront of the national conscience.

Balance budget to afford comprehensive coverage

Money politics explains why we cannot provide every American with comprehensive health care, even as we control costs. You cannot get the budget to balance without getting health care costs under control. You cannot get health care costs under control simply by whacking away at Medicare and Medicaid-putting the costs on the poor and the elderly.

Many bought the Republican line last year when they said there was no crisis. They are here this year to say that Medicare and Medicaid must be cut.
