Crack vs. powder is black vs. white
If you are caught with five grams of crack cocaine-that’s a five-dollar high-a first-time non violent offense, with no previous arrest record, you will be given a mandatory five year sentence in federal prison.
91% of those caught with a five-dollar
high are young black males. By comparison, to get five years for marijuana possession, you have to have $42,000 worth. For powder cocaine, for five years, you have to have $3,000 worth. For crack, you have to have $29 worth to get five years.
